HIV to AIDS

by Editor

How does HIV progress to AIDS?

Eventually most people who are infected with HIV will develop AIDS.

There are a number of factors that determine how quickly AIDS develops; including lifestyle and medication choices. If you choose to smoke and consume more than the recommended amount of alcohol this will have a negative effect and you may become unwell. The same goes for if you have pre-existing or newly acquired STIs as these too can weaken your immune system.

HIV officially develops into AIDS when your T cell count falls below 200 or 14%. – this means HIV has taken hold and caused your immune system to considerably weaken leaving you vulnerable to infection.
