Victoria Nanyka

On Monday, we learned that one of our grantees, Victoria Nankya from Teens Against AIDS in Tanzania, passed away on Saturday. Victoria was a bright and energetic young woman who was about to complete her higher education. She co-founded "Teens Against AIDS" in 2002 together with Charles Dingo, which is a project that works on HIV prevention among the Masai; they received their first Staying Alive Award in December 2006 and have just been selected for another Staying Alive grant. Teens Against AIDS is one of the projects that we are so proud of - they are doing incredible HIV prevention work in a very difficult environment. Victoria was very much a part of the success of this project, and she is dearly missed by her colleagues at Teens Against AIDS, her family and friends, and all of us at Staying Alive.

Read about the great work Victoria was involved with...

Victoria's life was not in vain. Because of her AIDS she was able to begin an organization that reached out and touched many in its efforts. Through her work, her life lives on!!!!!

That's sad. I'm sure she'll be terribly missed.
